And I’m really good with the person in your family who doesn’t want their picture taken. Sometimes that’s your three year old. Sometimes it’s your seventeen year old. And sometimes it’s your husband.
I’ve been photographing families professionally since 2012, and one thing I’ve learned is that beautiful family photographs have very little to do with having a family that behaves perfectly. They come from knowing people.
My background is in family science and education, and before photography became my career, I spent time teaching. Family photography isn’t only about understanding a camera. It’s understanding the people standing in front of it.
Knowing how to engage a shy child. Recognizing when a toddler needs a change of pace. Knowing when to give directions and when to stop giving them. And somehow getting twelve people looking in the same direction at the same time.
I have three children of my own , and I've photographed them throughout their entire childhood. That taught me something no workshop could: kids have a limited amount of time before they're finished with your plans.
So I don't expect children to spend an hour posing perfectly. My sessions move. We play. We change what we're doing. I redirect rather than continually asking children to behave for the camera, because once a photo session becomes a power struggle between parents and kids, nobody looks happy.
I want you in the photographs with your children, not standing behind me begging them to cooperate. Let me handle them.
I swam Division I at Ohio State, so I have no hesitation about wading in the water to get the shot.

Celebrate the little things. Birthdays, reunions, a Tuesday. Bring the cake, I'll bring the camera.

Three kids of my own, which is how I know exactly how long a five year old will cooperate.

Lover of golden light. If I could book every session for the last hour of the day, I would.

I learn how your family works before we start: who needs a minute, who needs a job, and who will be completely done in twenty. That is how we end up with photographs that look like you, and an hour that never felt like work.
You're in the right place.
